The undertray

The Katana subframe needed to be modified because I'm using a GSX1100ET rear light unit, and I wanted to fit the electrics below the seat to keep the bike un-cluttered. I also want lots of easily-accessible space for the electrics because the Katana will be a test-bed for all kinds of electrickery.
This is how Yoshimura did it on the 1135R

I will combine the undertray that supports the ET rear light, a tray for the electrics and a container for the battery all-in-one

The tray will have an aluminum double-floor for my future experiments with electrickery so I won't have to drill into the tray itself everytime I change something

A 30mm deep recess to give the tyre some extra clearance

The tray is perfectly aligned with the subframe, the underside completely flat.

The battery-box is sized to take a 9Ah gel battery (149x85mm) and 80mm deep.

Version 2.
The upper edge of the tray matched to the subframe...

More room for the rear tyre and the edges extended along the sides of the saddle.

The rear borywork will be extended all the way up to the shock mount.
The base plate has been cut out of 3mm aluminum.
The gap for the rear tyre cut out.
These are the three main parts of the tray.
Folding the standing edge.
Tinie tack-welding everything together.
The basic shape is here.
Threaded spacers to be welded into the tray
The replaceable electronics tray that also holds the battery in place.
Clamping the undertray in the milling machine...
...for a recess for one of the bolts that hold the seat unit.
The seat unit lines up perfectly!
On the other side also.
The spacers for the electrics thay welded in.
The mounting plate for the seat lock has been modified to take an ET/EX lock.
The tray is fitted with two rivet-nuts at the front and threaded caps in the frame tubes at the rear.

We've fabricated and welded "side-skirts" on both sides so the seat unit extends along the bottom of the seat.

The strips were bent first and than bashed with a hammer to match the curve of the seat,

Haven't decided on the colour yet but it now looks properly finished.
Another look at some details...
