18"x8J rear wheel
+ 240/40 rear tyre
Specialised 8" wheels are very expensive, and I had seen a few
Yamaha V-Maxes using BMW car wheels which is a much cheaper option.
I was eyeballing a cheap 18" wheel for a while on marktplaats.nl
and when the price came down to €20,- I just couldn't resist
anymore. The main reason to pick them up is because the spokes are
recessed which gives them more of a bike-look. |
| The wheel is a Masitaly Sagitta 18" x 8J |
|
| Luckily we found an old GSX1100 wheel that carried a
donor-card so I painlessly removed the hub. |

| The test-setup is looking good allready! |
 |
| Even though the swingarm is mega-wide there will be
just enough chain-clearance. |
 |
| This is what the guys and gals at ISR call a "sprocket-brake".
And this is the brake system I'll be using, consisting of nothing
more than a generously perforated sprocket and a twin piston caliper
that'll be able to bit a 9mm disc (width of a 530 sprocket). |
 |
| I decided to go for the Metzeler
240/40R18 M/C 79V TL ME880 XXL Marathon Steel Radial Tyre,
which has a street price of €200,- (gulp!) |
